Artemisinin Resistant Malaria

A new strain of drug-resistant malaria has been discovered in Southeast Asia, along the border of India and Myanmar.
This strain is resistant to artemisinin which forms an integral part of the Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT); the current recommended treatment for malaria by W.H.O.
This poses a new threat to global health if it eventually leads to the failure of ACTs.
