NAFDAC Destroys Fake And Expired Drugs In Anambra

The Nigerian National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), destroyed fake and expired drugs worth 500 million naira in Anambra with the supervision of Dr Paul Orhii, the Director-General of NAFDAC.

Dr Paul said the products were willingly given up by traders across the state and their timely destruction was necessary to prevent them from being re-introduced into the market, with consequences such as therapeutic failure, drug resistance, adverse drug reactions, organ damage and death. The drugs destroyed included: antimalarials, ant-hypertensives, antibiotics, analgesics, various injectables and multivitamins.

He reiterated that fake and counterfeit drugs will not be tolerated and the agency would leave no stone unturned in eradicating them.
