Swallowing Gum

Gum is designed for chewing and not swallowing but it generally isn't harmful if swallowed.

There are myths of swallowed gum sitting for years undigested in the stomach but this is not true.
Swallowed gum moves relatively intact through the digestive system and is excreted in stool.
In children, swallowing large amounts of gum may cause constipation and should be discouraged. Adults may take a cue from that.
