The Truth About Waist-trainers

Ever since Kim Kardashian shared a picture of herself wearing a waist trainer, the waist-training fever has spread like wildfire. Khloe, Black Chyna and a few celebrities soon followed suit and the trend won't be slowing down soon.

No one seems to remember Kim and Khloe were always curvy and those pictures  could have been a publicity stunt for their friend,  Premadonna, a Miami entrepreneur who sells the products at Whatsawaist.com.

Although waist-training gives the appearance of a small waist, the results are only temporary and does not remove excess fat as claimed by some people.

Stephen Ball, associate professor of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at the University of Missouri in Columbia said, "You aren't going to lose body fat by cinching the waist, you're going to lose by exercise and watching what you eat; it's a perfect example of people being more worried about appearance than good health."

Other health and fitness experts have warned that the use of waist cinchers/trainers can cause harm to internal organs like the diaphragm; decrease core strength; damage the ribs and cause back pain. Also, exercising while wearing a waist trainer is a health risk.

Finally, although a waist trainer may give you a slimmer look, the effects are not proven to be long-lasting and the long-term effects of wearing one..... time will tell.
