Another strike by JOHESU

For some time now, doctors and health workers in Nigeria have been at loggerheads over demands by the health workers to be made equal and enjoy same benefits as doctors. Although the Government has tried to maintain some peace between the two parties, they both remain on the 'war path.'

In line with this, JOHESU will be embarking on another strike action next month if their demands aren't met.

The Vice President of JOHESU and President of National Union of Allied Health Professionals, Mr. Felix Faniran, said as much on Tuesday in a directive to the union’s members nationwide.

He said, “Dear all, kindly refer to the outcome of the last JOHESU leaders meeting, which was held on Thursday April 23 at Abuja as a follow-up to the earlier meeting of April 14, where a decision was taken to request an audience to see Mr. President for immediate implementation of our 15-point demands as promised by Mr. President to the union’s leadership when he met us on February 1.

“Since there was no response, it was further resolved that a reminder be sent to Mr. President to meet our demands on or before April 30. Should this fail, the leaders shall meet on May 1 and declare a nationwide industrial strike with effect from May 8, 2015. It is hoped that everything possible shall be done to avert the impending strike.”

In other news, the current National President of JOHESU, Mr Ayuba Wabba became the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress in March.

And some are wondering if  Mr Wabba will use the power of his new position to jostle for his group or be impartial.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, can't we all just get along. Sigh!
