It is now mandatory to have a medical check before being approved as a Christian pilgrim in 2015 without any exemption.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), John Kennedy Opara, said this at the inauguration of a 14-man federal medical committee for the 2015 pilgrimage today.
This must have been espoused after the deaths of some pilgrims in previous years. In 2014, 10 Muslim pilgrims were confirmed dead in Mecca.
The new rule may be somewhat inconvenient but will provide people with an opportunity to check their health status.
