Which hospital is the cleanest in Nigeria?

Well, it wasn't put to the vote but all the same we have a winner. And it wasn't a tie. So here goes, the winner of the cleanest hospital in Nigeria is...(Clue: a South-eastern hospital).

...,Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia

He didn't say so in those exact words but you get the message. Anyway, during a visit to FMC Umuahia, the new Minister of Health, Fidelis Nwankwo, described the cleanliness he noticed at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia as outstanding, having gone round all the federal hospitals in the country, including Abuja.

He made the observation in Umuahia last week, while on official visit to the health institution, adding what he saw was quite impressive.

“It shows that your leadership brought what you saw abroad into the hospital, which is what is missing here in our system. There are little things that are very essential, which people see abroad, and doing these little things in a good way here makes one outstanding. Just like the hospital equipment we are talking about here, some of them don’t cost fortune, it is just that we don’t get our priorities right,” Nwankwo said.

“I urge you to keep up the good job. We have to call the attention of all the policy makers in the country that health should be made a priority and I think that there is no other ministry more important than health until they create a ministry for food, where free food are daily shared to people,” he said.

Earlier, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Chuku Abali, said FMC, Umuahia had the best care unit for diabetes and the only one with customer-care unit in the country even as it upheld patients’ rights.

Well, I really hope I get to visit 'the cleanest hospital' real soon. Chuckle...
