126 Health Facilities Shut In Nassarawa State

126 'illegal' health facilities in Karu Local Government Area of Nassarawa state have been shut down.

According to Dr Thomas Affi, director of clinical services in the state’s Ministry of Health, the exercise was not meant to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that ethical practices are observed, as well as to identify registered and unregistered clinics and hospitals in the state for the benefit of all.

The 126 shut clinics and hospitals were not formally registered, had no operational licences and did not pay tax according to the Ministry's investigations.

Dr Affi said, although the state government appreciated and acknowledged the contributions of private health establishments in the state, the right things must be done in order to sanitise the system and save lives.

Finally, he called on the public to report any quack medical practitioner to the ministry for appropriate action.
