Die-In to #DefendDoctors in Syria: Doctors Gather In Support of Dying Colleagues In Syria

The Syrian-American Medical Society (SAMS) and Physicians for Human Rights rallied 670 doctors to stand in support of their dying colleagues in Syria with "Die-In to #DefendDoctors in Syria.

They said, "More than 670 medical professionals have been killed in the Syrian crisis. Over 95% of these deaths are by Syrian government forces. Since the start of the crisis in Syria, physicians, hospitals, and ambulances have been systematically targeted and indiscriminately bombed. Each of these attacks is a war crime, and together they amount to crimes against humanity. However, these crimes are almost daily occurrences in Syria. The constant threat of violence has forced thousands of physicians to flee the country, leaving the healthcare system decimated."

So on Thursday, an estimated 670 doctors in white coats and medical clothes bearing numbers representing each health worker killed in Syria gathered in New York City.

Their goal was to show support for healthcare professionals who risk their lives to save others in Syria and draw international attention to the issue.
