Alison Madueke Beefs Up Security After Cancer Surgery

Former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who reportedly has breast cancer underwent surgery in a London hospital last Thursday. The surgery was done after after she had received some courses of chemotherapy.

Diezani is said to have intensified her security detail after the surgery amidst fears for her safety.

A family source said the former minister was in hiding because she feared her safety was in jeopardy; following the intense media scrutiny that accompanied her arrest last month.

The security was also said to have been ordered by her doctors to enable her recover fully.

The source also said, "The focus on Diezani and hysteria has completely shifted everything in one direction. Her family’s interest is for her to get well. The family is particularly worried about her health and seriously praying that she gets well. She is yearning to give an account of her stewardship once she is well enough. Nigerians should pray for her to get well so that we can put all this behind us."

Mrs. Alison-Madueke alongside four others in London were arrested but later released on bail for offences related to bribery, corruption and money laundering.

The Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Marylebone Road, London had early last month granted an application for the seizure of £27,000 seized from the former minister under Section 295 of Proceeds of Crime Act 2012.

By granting the application, which was filed by the UK’s National Crime Agency, the money would be held in the custody of the court until April 5, 2016.
