NMA Warns Doctors Against Osun State Job Offers

The Osun State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday said doctors should not respond to the advertorial placed in newspapers by the state government for medical officers.

The state Chairman of the NMA, Dr. Suraj Ogunyemi, said any doctor who applied for the advertised positions would be penalized accordingly.

Osun state NMA have also instituted legal action against the state government at the Industrial court and are awaiting court proceedings.

The bone of contention is the payment of only half salaries by Gov. Aregbesola due to the state's poor finances. And inspite of the threat of termination of their appointments, doctors in the state's employ have bravely refused to return to work since September last year saying, "they won’t agree to receiving half salaries, because there is no half treatment; it is either you treat your patients or you don’t."

I feel it's about time the Minister of Health, Prof. Adewole brokers peace between the two parties because this issue is dragging on for too long!
