Rivers State Doctor Shot By Gunmen In The Hospital

A medical doctor was shot at midnight, Jan. 20, 2016 in his consulting room, by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Rivers state.

The assailants disguised as patients at the D-Line axis of Port Harcourt, knocked on the door of the consulting room where the doctor was attending to another patient.

Immediately the doctor opened the door, they pointed the gun at him, apparently to kidnap him. But in the ensuing struggle the doctor was shot in the abdomen and the gunmen bolted.

This incident happened on the heels of Thursday’s release of two doctors who were kidnapped recently in Port Harcourt.

The two doctors: Dr Isaac Opurum and Dr. Ibifubara Apriokor, were kidnapped in separate incidents in Port Harcourt.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, in Rivers state, Dr. Ibiso Bruce confirmed the freedom of both doctors but did not say if a ransom was paid to secure the release of the doctors.

The injured doctor is currently receiving treatment for the gunshot injury.
