Episiotomy (aka Epis😉😉 in Naija doctors lingo) is a surgical incision of the perineum to widen the vaginal opening to facilitate the delivery of an infant.
An episiotomy is usually performed when the head is crowning and the mediolateral incision is favoured over the median incision in Nigeria.
An episiotomy repair is called episiorrhaphy. Absorbable sutures e.g Chromic Catgut is used for the repair.
