VIDEO: Fasciotomy

The video shows a Fasciotomy; a limb-saving clinical procedure done to relieve compartment syndrome.
.
🏨Compartment syndrome is a painful condition that occurs when pressure within the muscles builds to dangerous levels. This pressure can decrease blood flow, which prevents nourishment and oxygen from reaching nerve and muscle cells. Without treatment, it can lead to permanent muscle damage.
.

🏨A fasciotomy consists of one or more fascial incisions and remains the only effective way to treat acute compartment syndrome.
.
🏨Indications for a fasciotomy include four signs and symptoms, commonly referred to as the four Ps. They are:
.
👉🏽Pain that is out of proportion to clinical findings
👉🏽Pain with passive stretch of involved muscles
👉🏽Pain with palpation of involved compartment
👉🏽Pressure increase within the compartment as measured
