How to save someone from choking to death

This picture shows a grape in the airway.

The patient was a 43-year-old man who died of asphyxiation (lack of oxygen) after swallowing a grape without chewing.
.
When someone is choking with a completely blocked airway, no oxygen can enter the lungs. The brain is extremely sensitive to this lack of oxygen and begins to die within four to six minutes. It is during this time that first aid must take place. Irreversible brain death occurs in as little as 10 minutes.

If you notice anyone around you choking, encourage them to cough forcefully but if that does not expel the object, obtain permission before performing the Heimlich maneuver (abdominal thrusts) to dislodge the object
.
How to  perform the Heimlich maneuver:
1. Stand behind the person. Place one foot slightly in front of the other for balance. Wrap your arms around the waist. Tip the person forward slightly. If a child is choking, kneel down behind the child.
2. Make a fist with one hand. Position it slightly above the person's navel.
3. Grasp the fist with the other hand. Press hard into the abdomen with a quick, upward thrust — as if trying to lift the person up.
4. Perform between six and 10 abdominal thrusts until the blockage is dislodged.
